"Detecting Biothreats in the Field: Practical Tips for the Company Officer

In the last several years, hazmat response has become a more significant part of many fire departments’ responsibilities. These low-frequency, high-risk incidents often challenge firefighters, company officers and command staff. The educational resources often presented are hazmat operations at the “30,000 foot level,” lacking the detail or practicality responders need. In this Webcast, Chief Bevelacqua will bring hazmat training down to the ground level, using real-life examples to demonstrate how any department, large or small, urban or rural, can respond effectively to hazmat calls. Topics covered will include:
Common hazmat calls that departments across the country—not just in population-dense urban areas—must be prepared for.
Risk Based Response Approach toward an incident: Steps for proper identification and assessment of a potential bio attack.
Equipment, technology and education that can aid first responders with identifying biothreats at the incident scene.
Tactical tips for responding to hazmat calls, from basic (little or no specialized resources) to complex (the “latest and greatest” resources)."

The Herald Bulletin - None hurt in rental house fire: "The Anderson Fire Department was summoned to a residence at 1210 Indiana Ave. around 9:30 a.m. It took about three hours for Anderson firefighters to clear the fire"

Fire Officer Strategy and Tactics
All of the resources for the Fire Officer Strategy and Tactics class for practical skills examinations and class scenarios are being placed on the IDHS website.
Included on the website will be;
These resources will replace the files currently located on the site and should be available by November 20, 2009. All the scenarios and documents will be available for download. The Indiana Firefighter Training System will be developing more scenarios for use by instructors for this course.
The scenarios can also be used during in house strategy and tactics training.
